Quick Trip to Cabin to Fix Plumbing

Zeb and I went up to Little Bear Lake on the weekend.  It was more complex than it appeared.  A trough of warm air aloft over Saskatoon provided plenty of unstable warm moist air.  We popped over to Saskatoon to fuel up in some light rain.  On the way up we flew over some scattered Cu.  Right around PA we were at 5,500 and needed to negotiate some airspace with a King Air headed north, but he was faster and ahead of us.

We dodged some towering Cu north of PA and descended into calm winds.  Still a little rough but an easy landing with a quartering cross-wind from the south-east.  Fixed the pump for Lorien and we got on our way after a cup of tea.  It was hot and calm so took off on 02 to avoid having to look at the trees at the top of a hill on takeoff!

The trip home was more eventful.  Stayed low at 4,500 and out of the isolated rain showers.  Ended up swing quite far to the west around Candle Lake to come back to Richter Field.

The track doesn't show it but just west of PA one of the rain showers we were skirting around shot out lightning.  So there was a sudden swerve to the west to get 10 or so more miles between us and it.

The approach into Martensville was calm and clear.  The jumpers were out but the pilot was on the ball with the radio so it was easy to get coordinated.  Plus he was really nice about pointing out the mud hole on the east end of the runway.  So much rain and hail the night before had flooded the airfield.
