Our trip to Vancouver in August was VFR the entire way. It was hazy with smoke from fires in BC. Took off after work on a Thursday, and decided not to cross the Rockies at dusk in smoke. Set down at Drumheller but there was no fuel due to a shutdown, which was NOTAMed but I did not check before selecting it for an alternate. Flew to Lethbridge and spent the night. The next morning was clear but hazy. Easy flight to Langley but did have a touchy spot near Princeton when the smoke cause very poor visibility for a few minutes.
