Cancelled Flight to Dawson Creek
Cancelled last weekend's flight to Dawson Creek. The weather was just too terrible.
1) Low ceilings along the VFR route. Very few of the airports along the Hope-William's Lake-Prince George route had anything higher than 3,000 agl. Three were below 1,500.
2) Poor visibilities. Some locations were reporting less than two miles.
3) Overcast alto-cumulus with embedded thunderstorms. Would not be able to see it coming or do anything to avoid it given we would be trapped in the valley.
4) Freezing level below 7,500. No way out if we got in trouble.
All told it was once of the worst forecasts I've seen in a long time and it was an easy decision to stay on the ground.
