Leoville

Flew to Leoville (CJT9) last Friday to drop off a friend from work and his two children.  It was one of the more spectacular flights in a long time.  The weather was a mix of sun, cloud, and rain-showers.  We went VFR so they could get a good view and we stayed low so they could get a good sense of the speed of the aircraft.  Passing in and out of sunshine and in and out of rain showers is a beautiful way to fly.

Leoville has seen better days as an airfield.  The main north-south runway surface has degenerated and is a bit rough with various grasses growing out in tufts.  The cross-wind runway looks quite ragged.  The runway lighting looks un-serviceable.  I spoke with a few people who used to fly out of there and it has gone down hill quite a bit since federal funding was removed.

There are no aircraft based out of there and it largely sees bush-plane traffic in the late fall for groups of hunters.  The Comanche had no trouble with the field but I did end up mowing a bit of grass.  Pretty soon, that airfield is going to be usable by bush planes only.
