Simulation Rig

Set up at Langley ready for start

The simulator I set up for IFR training uses Microsoft Flight Simulator X and the Accusim Comanche 250.  There are two video cards driving three monitors and a Saitek yoke, rudder, and throttle-prop-mixture combination.  The TPM module has been modified so that the controls are in the same order as in the actual aircraft.

The Accusim model has the instruments in the standard configuration and this does not match CF-NZB - she still has the old Piper scattered placement.  But the radios are on the left and in the same order.

Per some advice on the Accusim forums the sensitivity has been set to maximum and the controls recalibrated.  This makes quite a difference with respect to controllability.

Over Princeton
The Accusim Comanche is amazingly close to the real thing.  The response of the model to the engine controls is particularly realistic - although my tachometer does not jump quite as much when the engine is leaned right out during cruise.

Did a simulated IFR flight with a route of CYNJ-HH-XX-ANTLR-CILLY-YDC-CYFF using the LOC/DME approach into Penticton.  The simulator performed seamlessly and the real-time weather still works very well.

Given that the rig is set and assembled we can start some of right seat training over the next few weeks.
