Pierre Hanekom is a West Jet Captain on the Q400, a Sim Instructor at WJ, flew the 737 pre-COVID-19 and a fellow COPA member from Melfort, SK! Growing up in Melfort, SK he starting flying at age 16 with his Dad Pierre Sr. Pierre learnt to fly at Mitchinson Flight Centre in Saskatoon and loves all things GA. Pierre started an epic career by flying for TWA first officer  on the SAAB for 3 years, Captain on King Air 100,200,350, and Beech 1900 for 3 years. He then flew WJ Encore Dash 8 for 3 months prior to being upgraded to Captain and eventually joined the training department, teaching sim. Although Pierre loves to maintain flying proficiency in various GA aircraft, he loves flying with his Dad in his 172 RG. Pierre is taking point for Flight Club in Saskatchewan, and is thrilled to share the benefits of Flight Club for our SK pilots this Tuesday.

COPA Objectives: Keep Us Flying! 

Flight Club a wonderful opportunity for our SK plane owners to rent their plane out to their own vetted pilots, quite similar to an Air BnB! 

Across the province we have a few gaps in our accessibility to keep flying active. 

Some of the issues we face for our COPA members in SK include the lack of flying from our fellow plane owners, and a lack of renting/ flying an airplane from our licensed pilots ( PPL pilots to Including our professional pilot COPA members.) 

 Our airplane owners face the trouble of having their planes just sitting in hangars due to busy schedules, medical issues etc.  Many of our non plane owner pilots can’t fly to inaccessibility to planes- unable rent from a flight school due to the travel time to their geographical location or due to finances in order to purchase a plane post Licencing.

Flight Club team helps pair up pilots and plane owners to ensure pilots can enjoy flying without owning a plane and benefit our owners by keeping hangar costs down, and keeping their birds flying! Renting to each other benefits both parties, and uncovers a major road block for our pilots across the province. 

This is possibly a solution to  keep our pilots across the province flying and connecting!  

We’re excited to connect as a group, encourage each other to keep flying and learn more this Tuesday!
